New in Sept.jpg

Many new book publication dates have been postponed until now because of lockdown.  This is always a busy time in publishing but this year we are seeing an avalanche of new titles--approximately 600 will be published on or around Super Thursday (3rd September).  We are bracing ourselves for the influx.  We can't list them all, so we've made a selection of highlights in different categories.  We have also included some titles you may have missed as they were published mid-lockdown.

NEW FICTION

Islands of Mercy

by Rose Tremain

We start with a very special and delicious offer for Rose Tremain's new novel. Thanks to the publisher Random House and the Cragg Sisters we are offering a free slice of Emma's delicious lemon drizzle cake with every copy ordered. Books and Cake can be collected on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th September.

Every novel by Rose Tremain is a treat. This moving exploration of love and its sacrifices is set in Bath in 1865. There are many strands but one in particular has inspired this offer: the indomitable Mrs Morrissey's High Class Tea Rooms.

PAPERBACK FICTION

The Confession

Edited by Jessie Burton

£8.99

There's a certain Schadenfreude in listing this title: this is probably the only time we can read it, what with air travel being off the agenda for the time being. It's a collection of in-flight stories, from white knuckle rides to the ultimate double locked room murder (in the loo in the plane in mid air ...). As Stephen King writes in his introduction: 'ideal airplane reading, especially on stormy descents'.

Grandmothers

by Sally Vickers
£8.99

Fabulous

by Lucy Hughes-Hallett
Paperback, £18.99

Lucy Hughes-Hallett's first collection of short stories takes fables, myths and ancient legends from fairytales, the Bible and Greek legends and gives them a fresh modern twist. Stand out highlights include the story of Diana and Actaeon with estate agents, Pasiphae and the minotaur with seaside gangsters, and adding further complications and some pink pills to the story of Tristan and Isolde. We particularly like the Pied Piper of Halesworth.
